Cape Town confirms its status as South Africa's Crown Jewel

Category News

The Telegraph has spoken: Cape Town has once again topped the Telegraph Travels Awards as readers' top choice as a travel destination, a position it has held since the awards began in 2013. And, yes, this year South Africa completed its climb up the rankings to become the No. 1 country as well.

"Those of us who are lucky enough to live in Cape Town are not surprised that our city won the award again-the combination of natural beauty, sun, mountains, sea and so much more remains unbeatable," says Hayley Vann-Herbert of Jawitz Properties. "For many of our visitors, Cape Town is the gateway to the rest of the country, so I like to think we played a part in helping South Africa win the award this year."

Vann-Herbert says that Cape Town's allure for travellers is translating into a steady influx of buyers keen to make the celebrated Peninsula lifestyle their everyday experience. She says that the traditional buyers of Cape Town property from the UK and Germany are now being joined by US citizens, as well as an influx of high-net-worth individuals from elsewhere in Africa.

"Cape Town property offers unbelievable value when you compare it to European, American or Asian property prices, and expats also find that their hard currencies go so much further here," she concludes. "We are living in an experience culture, and accessing world-class experiences, be they wining and dining, outdoor adventuring, arts and culture is just more affordable than virtually anywhere else.

"All of this is underpinned by a municipal and provincial government that invests in infrastructure (including green solutions) and delivering service to citizens."
