Umzinto at a glance

Umzinto property: A profile of Umzinto property from a prospective buyer’s perspective, with information on facilities and attractions in the area.

Umzinto Property

The bustling town of Umzinto was once a thriving railway and sugarcane hub. The Javanese workers brought in as labour for the sugarcane industry have left their mark on the town, with its Eastern-influenced architecture.

Today, the attractive community of Umzinto, situated inland from Park Rynie on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, is a sought-after rural retreat.

The safe, warm water bathing beaches of Pennington, Bazley and Ifafa Beach are only minutes away, and the picturesque rolling hills, hiking trails and indigenous wildlife of the Natal Midlands are easily accessible. At the same time, Umzinto is only 72 kilometres south of South Africa’s third largest city, Durban.

Umzinto Real Estate

Umzinto properties include affordable family homes and the occasional smallholding. Solidly built Umzinto houses with multiple bedrooms and garages are available for some of the lowest prices to be had.

Umzinto Attractions

Umzinto home owners are within a stone’s throw of the 2,189 hectare Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve, a picturesque wilderness area with sweeping grasslands and thick coastal forest that’s home to antelope, monkeys and over 300 bird species. Also, on their doorstep are the golden beaches of the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, offering seaside activities such as surfing, angling, snorkelling and diving.

The highly rated 18-hole, par 72 Selborne Golf Course, with its lush scenery and challenging water hazards, is only minutes away in neighbouring Pennington.

Umzinto Facilities

Although Umzinto is a small, rural community, it has all the requisite facilities. A number of primary and secondary schools, both in the town itself and in neighbouring areas, provide excellent education. The GJ Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh and the local clinic offer essential medical services.

A dedicated police station and the Pennington Fire Brigade are at hand to take care of any emergencies, and neighbouring Scottburgh includes a range of upmarket retail shopping malls, restaurants, banks and fast food outlets.
