New year, new look: top décor trends for 2024

Category News

Do you feel like the start of 2024 is a good excuse to take a fresh look at your home décor and colour scheme? If so, then if you'll excuse the pun, we'd like to say "That's peachy". Welcome to 2024, the year in which Pantone has declared its colour of the year to be "Peach Fuzz". Jawitz Properties has put together a list of seven ways that you can breathe new life into your home according to the top trends of 2024.

  1. Introduce a touch of peach

Every year, Pantone introduces a Colour of the Year and the winner for 2024 is Peach Fuzz, a hue that is, in Pantone's words, "a colour radiant with warmth and modern elegance". There are different ways to introduce this colour: you can go all out and paint the walls peach fuzz, or you can go for a more subtle approach by changing your curtains and scatter cushions and introducing accessories like lamps, vases, rugs or picture frames.

  2. Minimalism is out - so go big AND go home

When we say this is the year to "go maximalist", we don't mean clutter up your home with unnecessary furniture and trinkets. What we're talking about is vibrant colours, larger-than-life patterns and surprising textures. Make your home a bold space of self-expression and individuality. As a side note, art deco style is back with a vengeance, so if anything is glam, classy or high-end bling, it has a place in your home in 2024.

  3. Get back to basics with everything eco - including sustainable fabrics

The sustainability trend that we saw in 2023 is growing from strength to strength, with natural and renewable materials, eco-friendly appliances and LED lighting still firmly in the spotlight. Think bamboo, recycled wood, cotton, linen and hemp - if it's renewable, recyclable or earth-friendly. It's at the top of the trends list for 2024.

  4. Use earthy tones and neutral hues that create an inviting atmosphere

Neutral tones will always form the basis of home décor, but the cool greys and off-whites of 2023 are making way for softer hues such as clay, warm terracotta and subtle greens. These warmer shades can transform your home into a welcoming haven for family and friends.

  5. Introduce eclectic accents and head-turning objet d'art

Create a wonderfully eclectic look in your home by decorating with pieces inspired by different cultures. An Egyptian cotton throw could be the perfect complement to an Italian-inspired glass vase. Similarly, an Asian lamp could be paired with beaded African crafts to create a talking point in your home.

  6. Make your spaces (and your furniture) multitask

The working-from-home trend that the twenty twenties has introduced is here to stay and multifunctional spaces will continue to be important in every home. A home office can often double up as a spare bedroom and modular furniture is a great way to keep things flexible in your living space. If your home is short of storage space, then furniture with hidden storage compartments can be a big help in keeping the clutter at bay.

  7. Bring the outside in

The connection between indoors and outdoors has never been more important. Create tranquillity in your living room and your home office by incorporating indoor plants and earthy colours. Make the most of windows or glass doors to let natural light in and create a freeing sense of open space.
